Brynn's Fieldtrip to Sac Zoo and Fairytale Town

This last week I was able to go with Brynn and her class on their field trip! It worked out well because we were already flying Mom down to watch the kids while Joe and I flew to LA for Memorial Day weekend. We changed her flight and had her come a day early so she could watch Abby and Aaron while I went. Thanks Mom! I loved sharing this time with Brynn and getting to know some of her classmates better. They are such a cute group of kids. I kept trying to say all of their names, but I couldn't quite get my R's to roll the right way, they tried to correct me, but let's face it, this gringa can't roll her tongue! Brynn was so excited to go together....so was I!
I've taken my kids to the zoo a few times, but it was the first time for the rest of our group and they were so excited to go! It was great to experience their excitement and energy!
They were very well behaved They tried their hardest not to tap on any of the glass windows and quickily obeyed when I reminded them they couldn't climb into where the animals were. At one point, I had to use the restroom, so I firmly told all of them to wait outside the door for me and not to move...when I came out, Brynn was the only one standing in the exact same place with a very serious face that said, "Mom, I tried to tell them to stay, but they wouldn't..." The rest were only a few feet away, but I guess only Brynn saw me as an authoritive figure.
Me, Brynn, Jasmine, Eduardo, Omar and Alejandro
Some of Brynn's friends from class, Jasmine, Brynn, Brianna, Celeste
The castle throne at Fairytale Town....Brynn was again the only one in our group who had ever been, so they all ran around thrilled to be there! You would have thought they were at Disneyland!
Cinderella's coach...

They were so sad when the time came to go home, but that soon changed when I informed them that when we arrived back at school it was time to go home! "What?! No learning, just playing, this is the best day ever!" was their reply. Many of the kinders fell asleep on the way home, they were tuckered out!

Being with the students reminded me of what I loved about teaching. Experiencing life and so many firsts through the eyes of a child allows you to appreciate the many wonders that surround you everyday. It was a great day!

You look way too good to be pregnant! :) I love the pictures of you and the kids, I am too often behind the camera-(usually by choice, but I should be better about that!)

I am cracking up at Brynn's class demographics. I was in a similar situation, living in Hawaii and Arizona (on an indian reservation) for the first 14 years of my life. I was in third grade when I learned that people are classified by the color of their skin. I thought nothing of it - except I was jealous of the glossy smooth black hair and high cheekbones of the Native Americans. Sigh. Still am, I guess :).

Great pictures! You, of course, look fabulous!

Love, Tif

I love their cute shirts. No mistaking whose class they're supposed to be with. Looks like a fun day.

When is your baby due? It's easy to tell which kid is yours. What a great opportunity for Brynn to be around all different people from different backgrounds. She will be better because of it. (Not that she needs to be any better)....you know what I mean.

It looks like you had a fun time. I too am laughing at the demographics of Brynns class. At least you can spot her easily. I like the matching shirts. Did you see Wicked while in LA? I am dying to know.

You guys have been having so much fun lately! Every time I check your blog, you have pictures of a new adventure. Good for you!
I haven't thanked you for the wonderful comment you left on my blog about needing a "grandma." I felt like you completely understood where I was coming from. So...thanks!
And congratulations on your big news!

You are pregnant, Congratulations! I was wondering from the last post, but you didn't really announce did you? Maybe I missed it. Looks like a fun field trip. I was just thinking today how strange it will be to have Braiden in Kindergarten.

Jenni, the baby is due November 2, I'm about 18 weeks. We're excited to find out what we're having soon! We have a girl name we like, but boy names are so hard for us, it will be nice to find out soon and start thinking in either direction.

To everyone, we really enjoy the diversity. I was worried at first to have her be the only caucasian in her class, but now I am grateful, and we don't think much of it. She will have a much different experience than I had growing up. People are people, it took me until I was in college to realize that. When I was taking a multi-culturalism class my senior year at BYU I thought, "I live in Utah County, I don't think I'll see a multitude of cultures while teaching here." I didn't, but now I realize that class was for all of those who would teach outside Utah Valley. Wow, there are lots of different ones here. Variety is nice.

Kristina, we did go to Wicked and LOVED it, we're working on the post now.

You are all so nice, as most of you know, I don't get a belly really fast, but I gain weight EVERYWHERE at first. I prefer 6-9 months over the first 6 because I look pregnant after 6, not just like I've gained weight. I may be in eternal stretchy pants after this one, and you know what, I don't think I would even mind. They're all worth it! :)

You have such an adorable family. Congrats on the new baby, we still haven't even met Aaron yet. We miss you guys, but it was sure fun while you lived in Spokane, to be able to see you and meet your girls :)

Wow, congrats on the new baby news! Mysterious way to announce it! :) I guess you have to work hard to get everyone excited about a 4th! Fun field trip. I have to say it always makes me respect teachers so much. The cuteness only lasts about 2 hours with me. I really have to hand it to anyone that can do it 9 months!
