Unusual Requests

Before I forget, I need to write down something funny. Today I was sitting at the table with the girls helping them finish their homework when Abby asked 'Why do you always have to be on time when you come to get me? Why can't you be late?" Fast forward to tonight, we tucked her in, and a few minutes later she yelled from her bed, "Mom, there's one thing you forgot to do today....you forgot to be late when you were picking me up!" I reminded her that we had just talked about it today and that I would be late tomorrow.

Brynn and I thought Abby's request was hilarious and then I asked Brynn if she remembered what she did when I showed up even 30 seconds after she walked out of her kindergarten classroom. She giggled and said, "I started crying every time!"

It's true, when Brynn was in kindergarten if I wasn't standing there waiting right when she walked out the door, she was in tears. It made her teacher mad, but then again, if you looked at her teacher wrong, it made her mad. At the time, Brynn told me that it made her think I wasn't coming when I wasn't there waiting when she got out. I told her she needed to trust that I would be there, so I purposely came late 3 days in a row and she was over it. S he just had to take a deep breath and tell herself that things were going to be okay. I have to hand it to Brynn though, being the first child has to be rough, especially when you're the new kid in town and you're pretty different from everyone else.

cRaZY hAIr dAY!

I love these girls! They are so much fun. Getting them ready today I thought of all the funny spirit days from when I was a child. My favorite was backwards-day with my backwards pony-tail. I could hardly see to get my work done, but it was sure memorable! We had lots of fun and laughs getting ready this morning.

Lake Tahoe

Joseph will include the details of "The Great Lake Tahoe Bike Race" but I wanted to write about another highlight of our trip. In addition to all of the excitement of the race, we were excited about the chance to connect with our good friends, The Edwards Family, who live in Reno, NV. Paul and Kristina met us in Tahoe on Saturday afternoon. We LOVED seeing them. We first met Paul and Kristina when we lived in Spokane. Paul and Joseph attended Gonzaga Law School together. We met them the first month after we moved to Spokane, but didn't get to know them well until we moved from the South Hill to North Spokane halfway through law school. I am so grateful we had the chance to get to know them better by being in their ward. They are a great family.
The kids hit it off like they had never been apart, and the ones who hadn't yet joined our families during the Spokane years, acted like they had found their long lost friend. We had fun getting to know baby Avery. She has such a big personality for such a little girl. She is seriously so cute!
Aaron and Carter played hard, running back and forth between the pools and the hot tubs.

The girls had a great time and were creating plans the whole time we were together. They had great plans to swim, then go to dinner, and then go back and watch movies together and eat popcorn, but sadly their fun had to end because it got too late. They have all grown up so much in the last few years.

After we swam and swam and swam, we went to dinner so we could enjoy visiting a little longer. It was funny walking around Tahoe with 8 kids. We were qutie a sight. There were a few times when just one of the men were with us. We joked that we looked like a great big polygamist family.

When we got into the restaurant, they were smart and gave us our own room. Aaron was being a little tiger and lashed out about everything we asked him. After just a couple of minutes, he rested his head on his arms and we watched him fight to keep his eyes open. He was determined to keep his eyes open, then finally submitted and we made a little bed for him with a few chairs. He slept through dinner and then wouldn't go to bed that night. :(

It was a great afternoon and evening. After dinner, the Edwards had to head for home, but not before Kristina introduced us to an "Apple Pie" carameled apple from Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. It was sooooo good! We are so glad we were able to get together! Our years in Spokane were so memorable because of lessons learned and wonderful friends. These friendships we will cherish forever. I can't wait to get together again.
