Let's Celebrate! ....and lament...

I hesitate to complain on our blog because the things I have to complain about are pretty trivial, but since this is our family journal, I think our posterity deserves a little dose of reality. Believe me, I realize there are far more devastating things than what I complain about here. That being said, here are some of our hoorays and some of our "moan"ays. I think that's fair.

The state of the economy is sad....you know it's bad when you drive past the gas station and breathe a sigh of relief that gas is still $3.82 and they haven't raised it since last week. As if that's a cheap gallon! Luckily our commutes consist of <3 miles to work...<10 miles for kids activities. Not too bad.

On a more positive note:

*The LIBOR index has lowered causing our private law student loan rate to drop a whole 2%! YAY!

*We paid off our bar loan this week! What a huge relief! It took lots of hard work and the sacrifice of many things that would be alot more fun to spend money on, but everytime I look at my very tired furniture, I'll think of that lovely monthly payment we no longer have to pay. Yippee! That's worth celebrating! But, there's plenty more to still take care of. :)

Now, if we could just find a money tree to grow $70,000 for a 20% down payment on a little itty-bitty house here in California

Oh, and a crystal ball wouldn't be so bad either, so we could make sure home prices wouldn't drop 20%+ in the next couple of years like they have this last year in California. Crystal balls, money trees...that's not too much to ask is it?

Good for you! We are in the same boat thinking...gee can we EVER afford to get into a house. I need to relax more and know that it will happen eventually! :)

Move to Reno. The houses are still overpriced and if you get in one now, you mught not be as upside down as most people.

I hear you about the gas prices. It's very discouraging.

Congrats on paying off student debt. It's such a huge relief.

As you may remember, we have a HUGE money tree in our backyard (that is why all our flooring is original with the house - 17 years old) and we drive such kickin' new cars (97 Suburban and 98 Bravada).

I will send you a start from our tree right away.

This is my beef - every year Larry gets a raise and every year the cost of our health insurance goes up ALMOST that same amount. That said, I feel totally blessed and grateful for ALL that we have. Things have a way of working out for the best in the end, as you know.

Our crystal ball has a huge crack in it, unfortunately. And I wouldn't recommend those.

I LOVE your little dose of "reality "in your blog. I think these are concerns we all have and it is nice to know that we are not the only ones.

Can you believe $70K was our first house? o_O Times are a changin', even here though CA is admittedly so much more expensive.

Yay for little successes! And for little doses of reality. :D
