New York Day 3

Day 3 of our trip was another great day!  I woke up early to head to the Today Show again.  I was in such a hurry that I didn't get to eat breakfast.  Mom and Dad were beat, so they stayed in bed to catch a few more ZZZZZ's and then met me at the NBC Studios a little bit later.  I was able to squeeze my way into the front row of the crowd because a cute grandpa from the Midwest, who was visiting New York with his grandson, let me squeeze in because I am short.  I only stayed until 8:30 on this day because there was a Dr. Oz taping on that day and I REALLY wanted to go.

I don't have picture of of the Dr. Oz show because they threatened to take away our phones and cameras and erase all of the pictures on them if we were to take pictures, but here's how that all went down.

The trip to New York crept up on us and I didn't really think about any live tapings that I would want to go to until about a week before.  I got online and then called, but tickets to the Dr. Oz show were sold out. :(  I asked the page at the Today Show about standby tickets and he told me they were available, but there was no guarantee that I would get in.  He also asked if I was 18 because you had to be older than 18 to get in. (Thank you Mr. Page, I love you!)  My dad got a kick out of that.

I made my way over to the NBC studio cafe where I was able to get a standby ticket.  I got a hold of my parents who also came in and got a standby ticket.  We weren't in line together, but I told them I was determined to get in, so if they didn't make it in, I would call them when the show was finished.  They shuffled us into halls of the studio and at that point I still wasn't sure I was going to be able to go in.  It wasn't until we went through security that I realized I was going to get in!  I was totally excited!

When we entered the studio I was placed on the second row.  I was really excited when I saw that my parents made it in too.  We were all separate, but all glad to be there.  They gave us instructions on what to do, when to clap, not to make funny faces into the camera if it was placed on us, to look interested, etc.

It was very exciting when Dr. Oz entered.  The show was Four Body Pains That You Should Never Ignore  I was on a lot towards the end of the show and I even got to sample some food which was great since I hadn't eaten yet that day.  I was scarfing it down, but thought I better stop while the camera was on me.  Whenever they took the camera off I would hurry to sneak in a few bites of the chicken meatball and pasta.

I got to shake Dr. Oz's hand twice.  He has very soft hands by the way.  He was shorter than I had expected, but was really nice and fun and interacted with the crowd well during the short breaks between segments.  His "warmer," the guy who tells the audience when to clap, etc. was really funny.  We got a kick out of him.  He kept making jokes about walnuts and said that in the years he's worked for Dr. Oz, he's realized that all he can eat is pretty much walnuts, you can imagine where he went with that one. We also liked him because he asked the audience who had children, I think I was the only one who raised by hand at having 4 or more children.  He looked at me and said, "What did you start when you were 4 or something?"  Thanks, at 34 1/2, I'll take that as a compliment.

After the show was over we headed out to the American Girl Place and a few other stores along 5th Avenue, stores like Marc Jacobs, and others, where the people who actually buy things are more interesting than what the store contains.  The picture below is of St. Patrick's Cathedral.  I took it because it was almost St. Patrick's Day.

After this, we did a little more shopping and walking around Times Square, had lunch at another salad shop called Hale and Hearty, and then stopped by Roxy's to get some cheesecake.  Of course we went back to M&M and Hershey's to get our daily sample of candy.  Then went back to the hotel to get a quick nap and get ready for The Lion King.

We grabbed some pizza and then headed for the show.  Lion King was great!  I loved the music!  I went to this movie on my first date with Joseph, so there are a flood of memories associated with the music.  Brynn also performed a lyrical dance to He Lives in You, when we lived in San Diego.  I really enjoyed it!

We the show ended, we shared some frozen yogurt and then started walking back to the hotel.  On our way back we saw the theater for another show that we heard was really good, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.  People coming out said it was great, and we wish that it would have worked out to see.  Nick Jonas is starring in it right now and people were waiting for him to come out and hop in his car.  There were swarms of people and security guards, it was crazy!  Another show that Mom and Dad wanted to see was Sister Act.

We went back to the hotel and crashed because we had an appointment to do a session at the Manhattan Temple the next morning.
