Since our anniversary fell on a school night this year, we decided to celebrate with the kids on Tuesday and together this weekend. We always find any excuse in the book to celebrate anything for longer than one day! :)
The kids were so funny on Tuesday. Brynn wrote in her journal at school that it was her mom and dad's anniversary and about all of our plans as a family. When she came home I told her she needed to get started on her homework. She told me she would as soon as she finished her project. She made heart crowns for all of the kids to wear during our party! I love to see how she gets an idea and then to see how resourceful she becomes by finding things around the house to get that idea rolling.
The kids and I went to pick up take-out and dessert from the Nugget Market in Davis. The kids, of course, picked the cupcakes with about a foot of frosting, and I picked out some carrot cake and creme brulee for Joseph and me. After I picked out the large piece of cake, Abby looked up and said while nodding her head very confidently, "Mom, I wreally think you're going to need some help with that one!" I then asked her, "You think you could help out a little?" "Sure do!" She said. (That's her new answer for nearly everything.)
When we got home, I asked Abby to pick up while Brynn was working on her homework. She told me, "Mom, I told you I would pick up as sthoon as I am done with the decor-wations!" She then proceeded to decorate everyone's chair with something from the house that was their's. Everyone's chair was covered in personal items, ties, purses, my flannel pj's (nice choice Abby!) toy cars.....I wondered how any of us would sit down, but it all seemed to work.
Before we put them to bed, we watched our wedding video. Abby sat between us holding both of our hands and when she got excited, she would start to giggle, lean over and give us a great big squeeze and then a nice smooch! She's so funny!
Brynn said very inquisitively, "So mom, you got married on August 26, and then was it just 2 months and then you had me in October?"
"NOOOOOOO!" Joseph and I both chimed in together. "It was a little over two years later that you came into the family." Then Joseph said, "Mom's and Dad's need a little time together first before the kids come. (and then with a wink) It would be really hard to find a wedding dress for a belly with a baby in it."
Someday she'll understand, but I hope we made it clear enough, that's all we need is her telling people that we were married and then two months later, she joined us.
This family thing is work, but it's a fun and rewarding work.

I love that you celebrated your anniversary with the whole family. It should be a family event as well as a couple thing. What a fun way to get your kids excited about the beginning of their eternal family.
Sounds like you guys had a great day. Your kids are so cute! Happy Anniversary!
Abby is so funny, I love reading your blog! You have such a wonderful family, and Happy Anniversary!
Brynn is a smart little cookie. It's good that you set her strait on the time frame to which she was born.
I love Abby's new do. She is so sassy.
I think celebrating your anniversary with the kids is a good idea, especially on a school night.
