On the Road Again

The view from the front of Mom and Dad's home in April! Yes, snow! The funniest part was that the van was covered with an inch or two and an hour later, it looked like spring. I'm really glad it doesn't snow where we are in California.

The back! Brrrr!

We loved our trip to Utah, but we all thought it snowed a little too much for April, (every other day).

We were excited to get back to California. The kids were remarkable in the car, but I think we may try flying every other trip :), with stops, it take about 12 hours door to door. I know we're just sitting in a car, but driving can be tiring. One thing that keeps me driving (besides the $1250+ in plane tickets) is the fact that I vaguely remember President Hinckley talking one time about bonding as families on road trips (I mostly remember because Joseph recalls it often when I complain about how long it takes). Maybe we'll do our car bonding within the state of California and leave the out of state trips for being quick. Memories in the making!

WOW!!! What a great trip! Holy cow!! You guys sure did a lot! The nice thing about living away from family is that you always have a place to go on vacation that has cheap lodging!

We drive to Salt Lake (as you know, nearly the same length of time) and it is usually a lot of fun. It is getting more difficult as our kids grow up and become adult sized. Making memories - long drive torture - it's just a matter of how long it has been since you did it.

Great journaling!

Love, Tif

My family made that trip once in a little ford Taurus..yep 6 people in that small car for 10+ hours...I also remember making that trip once with my dad by ourselves going home for christmas one year after I had started college, we never once turned on the radio-we talked the entire 10 hours. I do have to agree that the car does make for good family moments...

But at the same time, I do lament the trip-that has to be THE WORST stretch of road to have to drive.

I hear you about the crazy weather. I'm sick of it. I could go for California weather right now.

Road trips can be good and bad. We drove to AZ for Easter. My mom went with us and we spent a lot of time talking about the many road trips we went on as a family when I was young. I'm sure my mom didn't love it at the time, but I'll always have great memories of traveling in the car.

that is funny, i agree with you on the plane tickets, but i have to say, the best memories i have is the five of us kids in the back of our hoopdie station wagon going on trips from spokane, to montana, to utah, to disney land, lots of memories, good and bad, but always funny! =)

I am impressed at how often you have made that drive. I haven't done it in years, and still the extreme lenght is still fresh in my mind.

April always means crazy weather in Utah. It seemed like at Brad's baseball games half the time we cooked the the other half we froze. It just can't make up its mind!

You're troopers for driving all that way. My mom and dad used to throw us all in the wood paneled station wagon and drive to Canada (his parents) and Mexico (her parents) and I am amazed they did it. But that was back before carseat and even seatbelt enforcement.

Going to Utah is the best though! I get there as much as I can and fill the time up with activities and seeing people.
