This past weekend we took a trip to Moss Beach which is south of San Francisco to attend the funeral services for the 4 month old baby of one of the other administrators. The service was very touching, filled with faith and testimony. We left with a renewed testimony of the plan of our Heavenly Father and were reminded of the delicate nature of our lives and our time here on earth. I am grateful for our Savior who overcame all that we might live again. That knowledge gives such hope during trying times, no matter how big or small. I know I've said it before, but the Northern Coast is beautiful! Moss Beach is located south of Ssan Fran near Half Moon Bay. Small coastal cities outside of the city....very pretty. After the funeral we told the kids we were going to San Francisco. We had in mind that we would drive up the coast and visit Golden Gate State Park, maybe Presidio Park and then stop in Sausalito. The kids had other plans. Brynn wanted to eat seafood, preferrably salmon and drive over the Golden Gate Bridge. Abby wanted to see the "sea lions that kick each other off the dock," and ride on the big red and white boat. Brynn told her we couldn't because dad doesn't have as much money as mom...ha! What a kick! (When we went to SF with Emily, we went on that red and white fleet harbor cruise!) When we told them that we were going to do something different, they both whined, "You said we were going to San Francisco! That's not San Francisco!" That's when we decided to ask them what San Francisco meant to them. :) We ended up eating seafood, walking the Pier, seeing the sea lions, driving over the Golden Gate Bridge and then heading home.
Next time we want to see something else in San Francisco, we'll be sure to say we're going to that specific place... now that we know what going to San Fran means to the kids. We still had a good time....that city amazes me and makes me grateful I live in little old Woodland. It's just much more "us" than the big city life.
I always enjoy driving past Mount Tamalpais where each time I am reminded by my husband, "There's where mountain biking was invented...do you remember by orange Mt. Tam bike?" We've been through about a dozen bikes in our almost 9 years so, it's honestly a blur, but it's always fun to see such a beautiful place and to hear him get so excited. Northern California is really beautiful especially this time of year. Everything is so green! The drive home was on the edge of wine country, Joe wanted to head north a little more for the scenery, but we decided to get home to prepare for Sunday. Another trip and more great ideas for little day adventures. It's nice to take the time to go and see these places. Each time we do we realize just how close we are to so much beauty! We stopped in Davis to get Aaron a much needed church belt, and shared a tub of halfed baked at Ben & Jerry's before stopping into Borders for a quick browse. I love hanging out with these people....big and small.

Can you say NERDY BOMBER! I really need to remove my glasses for the pictures, the glare is very unbecoming!
So sad about the baby :(
But I think it's adorable your children have an idea about The True Way to visit SF, and nothing else will do! :D
Thanks for inviting me to view your blog! I look forward to checking in! It was nice to see you at the Ramos' memorial service! Hope to see you soon@
That was very sad to read about the baby your friends lost. I am going to give my bunch an extra hug tonight.
I LOVE San Fran. Did you know Greg and his famil have lived there for six years? They live right by Golden Gate Park right now. They love it, but it's crazy expensive.
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Half Moon Bay. We had Rich's college graduation dinner at a little restaurant there on the beach. It's wonderful I agree, the Northern Coast is quite the place. Glad you got to explore a bit more!
PS I sent an invite to your SIL.
What a fun trip to San Fran-it seems that is the cool term. I haven't been there but it seems like there is plenty to do.
joe and amy: we saw gabe in his award winning performance down here in anaheim last weekend. we even took a picture of him for you...
sorry about your friends' baby.
i'm not sure i was ever able to convert joe to the beauty of the specialized frame. he loves to talk about the top tube designed by gary himself and how his torso and gary's are very similar...it's hard to argue with him you know?
wikipedia says the schwinn may have slightly pre-dated gary's frame in the hills of nor-cal (that would be sad if true). even less exciting is that the stumpjumper (my current bike) has the distinction of 'first mass produced bike'.) so whether joe is riding his boutique bike or i'm riding my mass produced one...i still miss riding with him. it makes we wonder when we're all going to moab..?
You took off your what not to wear post! I was going to say that you looked completely cute, stylish, trendy, and classic all at the same time EVERY time I saw you.
So, that goes with the missing post.
We LOVE San Francisco!! We have only been there with the kids a few times, and me with Daniel a few more times (Dr. appts) but it just so beautiful and there is so much to do and see! It looks like you guys had a great time!
Also, about the pinewood derby - the Cub Scouts had theirs at 6 pm, that was the one Daniel won. Then, we had a ward activity (I am the Ward Activity Chairman AND committee) that was a Pinewood Derby at 7 p.m., two categories - anything goes and standard 5 oz and under. Joseph won that one. (Kind of embarrassing to sweep the placings when you are in charge of the activity.) So, that is how the girls all got to participate and have fun. I recommend it for a ward activity. It was really well attended and a lot of success!
I love to read your blog! You have such an amazing family!
OH! And you totally do NOT look like a nerdy bomber (what is that anyway?!) in your glasses.
Hooray, I made it to your blog!! you are such patient parents! I might not have done everything my kids wanted to. Looks like such a great weekend trip. I read about Joe's work in your last post. Our office flooded too! It's a real pain. It's still not repaired because we just came through a massive norovirus outbreak. I'm sick of smelling bleach is all I have to say!
That looks like a fun trip, even though it seems to have stemmed from a very sad premise. I love reading about all your adventures.
This time of year I absolutely crave those green rolling hills! There is not a more beautiful place than norcal in March.
You guys are serious travelers! Wow! I miss the Bay Area. I grew up in Pleasant Hill. Fun to see SF through your eyes (and your kids eyes). Missing northern CA today. :)
San Francisco is beautiful! I love it! But I agree that it is better to live outside and go in when you want.
We were just in half moon bay this past weekend and it was beautiful. If you ever need ideas for things to do in this area let me know, we've pretty much done it all by now. If you are interested in planning a trip in April/May you should go just south of Half Moon Bay to a lighthouse called "Pigeon Point". You will see whales bringing their babies up the coast. We are planning to go in April, should be fun.
Anyway, your kids crack me up.
All of your many mini-adventures are cementing in my mind that the West coast is the ONLY place to live. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that we end up in the Northern California/Oregon/Washington range after residency. You guys have way too much fun!
I love your San Francisco pictures. I have never been there and would like to see it someday. I love the Golden Gate pictures. It is heart wrenching about Joe's friend losing their baby. It makes me want to go hold my kids just a little longer before bed.
What a cute family!!! I'm sorry for your reasoning for seeing SF. It's time like that when you just drop on your knees and thank our Heavenly Father. Give your kiddos a big hug and I love seeing your pictures.
