All tuckered out! The kids watched "Princess Diaries" to get them pumped up from the trip. They wanted to watch it after to see if they could see any of the same places. (It takes place in San Fran in case you were wondering!)
We were pleased with how quickly we were able to get there. It took us 1 hour 15 minutes from our house in Woodland, not bad! (and yes, we were driving the speed limit!) There were plenty of interesting things to see along the way, so that made the trip even quicker. We felt happy, tired, and dirty when we arrived home. I love coming home after a fun, but exhausting day, it's the best!
Oops we're a little out of order with the pictures again! We ended the day at the Boudin Cafe. We think they have the BEST sourdough bread! Emily wanted to try a nicer, upsacle, seafood resaurant, but I told her we better stick to street cafe's with three kids. I don't think they would have appreciated the 1 year old climbing on the freshly pressed linen at one of THOSE places.

What a fun trip!
I'm with you on the paranoia about trying on hats and head lice. My bout with it when I was 13 has traumatized me.
Sourdough bread is my favorite! That bread looked SO good.
It looks like so much fun! Thank heavens for family visiting, and forcing us to be tourists on our own home turf! Perhaps we'd better come, too, so you can see some other stuff. ;) (We'd love to visit. We'll start saving up our pennies. Hopefully you won't be off to the next job adventure before they've accumulated into a big enough pile.)
it's hard to know where start :)
i like the part about joe saying that aaron was screaming like a girl. our twins have been doing that a lot lately.
was the 'special of the week' banner something you had made up especially for emily? that pose must have been something she learned as an efy counselor?
amy: the easiest way (but still a pain) to switch you pictures around is to go into the html portion of the post and copy and paste the paragraphs that represent each photo.
san fran is really a cool city. it is nice that you are so close.
joe: i remember that you hiked kilimanjaro (sp?) to 19,000+ feet? i don't remember you talking about acute mountain sickness, but i do remember you talking about huddling in the cold before summiting--of course there was never any question of joe lee summitting:)
i am trying a feat much less daunting this week, but still significant for me. we are headed to mount whitney tomorrow for a climb to 14,500 feet!
oh, and i'm ashamed to say i've seen parts of hsm II more than once...but who can resist zac efron's soloes...?
Allison H. That picture of you after your bout still makes me lol.
Alyson - We would love for you to come visit. Now that I know a little more about Davis, I can see why you mentioned you would love to visit there. There are so many people and things we see or hear about and we think...sounds like Blaine and Alyson...all in a good way, don't worry!
Paul - Don't be ashamed...we watch parts of HSM 2 just about everyday. It's become my dinner prep rescue. At first it was for the kids, but I've realized I'm always the one suggesting it. Secrets out! Thanks for the tip about the pictures...I'll have to try it. I'll let Joe take care of your other questions. Have fun climbing Whitney...a friend of ours, from Reno, did it last month.
Oh and no we didn't make the sign just for Emily. The house across the street from us was for sale. It's still up....more like special of the year. Must not be too special. Every week we saw people park their cars and motorcycles in front. It took us forever to realize that they were taking pictures for an ad to sale their car, etc. We're kind of slow. :)
I can't believe how much your kids have changed! N still says B is one of her best friends. Maybe we'll have to visit sometime, too... we've never been to SF. Take care!
You are one brave momma! It's not super easy with three kids, but the memories they hopefully make are worth it. Ty screams like a girl too.....sometimes we get the weirdest looks from people! Oh well, I still think he's cute!
Hello Paul,
Mount Whitney! That is incredible, Whitney is amazing and huge! I've only seen it once, and that was from an airplane. I remember thinking, "I would like to climb that some day." Regarding Altitude sickness, yeah, it's real. I remember from about 15,000 feet up on Kilimanjaro I felt like I was breathing through a coffee straw. At the very top, my head was spinning... so dizzy. Van Halen's "Standing on top of the world" song kept playing through my head. The reality is that you will likely feel some of the altitude affects because you have been living at sea level and you are going to ascend soo fast. I climbed Mount Nebo in Utah county a few years ago and felt the air thinness. Altitude sickness comes from failure to aclimatize, and I am sure you will feel some of it, but NOT ENOUGH TO STOP YOU!!! You are a super man. Please post photos and tell stories. I am so jealous.
okay, i am SOOO jealous you are so close to san fran. we love that place! my favorite sandwich on earth is the boudin turkey and havarti cheese on sourdough.
hi mindi.
hi paul...
which one of the tiny guys is you?
